SPORTS AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
Our Sports and Recreational Activities
Sports Activities
Sports are an integral part of a child’s mental and physical well-being and also develop sportsman spirit. It is an important activity to learn different skills, leadership, organisation abilities, time management, discipline and above all, promotes brotherhood.
Children with special needs have an equal opportunity in the playing arena under ISHWAR’s sports therapy programmes.
ISHWAR Shooting Sports Club is affiliated to Delhi State Rifle Association imparting training in shooting sports not only for our children to enjoy as a sport but also help them in getting trained for suitable employment in police and law enforcement agencies.
Chess is another sport enjoyed by children at ISHWAR under the guidance and patronage of Tania Sachdev, Grandmaster, with trained coaches from the Delhi Chess Federation.
Aims
- Formation of socially-inclusive Sports Clubs to remove barriers which exclude children from the mainstream groups either due to poverty or due to disability.
- Seek affiliation from State Sports Associations and bodies to get access to the best coaches and facilities for training of our children.
- Include persons with disabilities in suitable sporting activities to create positive, qualitative and attitudinal changes resulting in a tangible shift in the perception of the concept of disability.
- Seek access and make use of government sports complexes for benefit of our children who feel marginalized due to either disability, poverty or gender bias.
ISHWAR Shooting Sports Club
ISHWAR is affiliated to the Delhi State Rifle Association, the state body for shooting sports under the able support and patronage of Shri Jaspal Rana, Padmashree, Arjuna Awardee and Chief Coach of the Indian Junior Pistol Team. The Shooting Club was the conceptualized by Arvind Kamal, then a 17 year old young lad who achieved the status of National Renowned Shooter in pistol shooting. He envisioned bringing the sport to the under-privileged and specially-abled children studying at ISHWAR to enable their participation in shooting competitions, both as a sport and also to train them for a future career in the police / armed forces. He also coached children in shooting sports as part of his community service programme before leaving abroad for his higher education.
